Jeff Laylon, the owner of Cornerstone Pets, has studied and continues to study Animal Behavior and has a degree in Theology. After spending 2 1/2 years in Asia as the Academic Director for an English School, 10 years in Manhattan as VP of Operations for a company that promoted the USA to the European travel market and 7 years in Hoboken working in healthcare and wellness, he opened Cornerstone Pets in February of 2004. Hoboken has been home since 1990. He has two incredibly beautiful mixed breed rescues, Baxter and Basil, that he can’t live without. You’ll often see them in the store if things aren’t too crazy. His love for companion animals is the heart and soul of everything you see in the store.
Meagan Matthews, our store Manager doesn't come without experience. She worked for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) for 5 years and has seen it all. She currently has 4 cats at home and a husband too. Meagan has a genuine love for animals. She is vegan, a Harley rider and can be seen running around Hoboken at any given moment trying to rescue a cat -- or a pigeon. Meagan contains a plethora of information on all kinds of animals and is always willing to discuss your animal health and wellness issues.
Robert Martin, (Robert, Rob, Bobby) came to us after 10 years of bartending. He couldn't bring the bar but his skills keep the floor stocked and the inventory under control. He has this strange knack for knowing when something in the inventory is not right. He has a tender love for animals and it's fun to watch his 6'3" frame melt to the size of a child at the sight of a new kitten or puppy. Rob runs his own dog walking and dog sitting business as well but he is usually fully booked due to the limited time he has outside of the store. It can't hurt to ask.
We know cats and dogs. We don't know it all, but we love learning. Come in, and please, bring your pets. We have a little withdrawal problem if we haven't had enough animal companionship on any given day.
